Kids love yoga―and it’s great for them, so much so that the President’s Council has added the practice to the fitness activities in the annual President’s Challenge. For parents and caregivers looking for a fun and effective new routine for bedtime, innovative educator Mariam Gates presents Good Night Yoga, a playful yet wholly practical book for preparing for sleep.

This beautifully illustrated, full-color book tells the story of the natural world as it closes down for the night, while teaching children a simple flow of yoga postures inspired by their favorite characters from nature. Moving from "Sun Breath" to "Cloud Gathering" to "Ladybug & Butterfly" and more, readers learn techniques for self-soothing, relaxing the body and mind, focusing attention, and other skills that will support restful sleep and improve overall confidence and well-being.

"The KINDLE version of this book must be viewed one page at a time, but the illustrations and text were created to be viewed as a spread of two pages. Since the whole point of the book is to DO the yoga poses as you read them with your child, it's really inconvenient to have the illustration of the pose you're reading about not be visible whem you're reading it. Buy the physical book if you want it to be useful. I would do that, but I'm too irritated at having already spent money on the kindle version."

  • This is such a cute book! My 3.5 year-old loves it, and she looks forward to getting out our mat and doing yoga with me every night before bed now. The story and the poses help to settle her down for the night and she goes to bed without complaining after Good Night Yoga. I just ordered Good Morning Yoga so that we can start our days as calmly and peacefully as we end them.
  • I can't say enough good about this book.i have a 5,3,2 yr old and they all do it with me every night it's became a wonderful nightime tradition. A MUST buy in my opinion.
  • The KINDLE version of this book must be viewed one page at a time, but the illustrations and text were created to be viewed as a spread of two pages. Since the whole point of the book is to DO the yoga poses as you read them with your child, it's really inconvenient to have the illustration of the pose you're reading about not be visible whem you're reading it. Buy the physical book if you want it to be useful. I would do that, but I'm too irritated at having already spent money on the kindle version.
  • Admittedly, I bought this in hopes that it would calm my toddler down before bed. She loves the book, and shows pride in showing us her poses...it's her little brother that doesn't quite understand the intent of the book and becomes silly when doing poses and instigates her to become hyper again. Im sure if we did it without him (but can't) it would prove to do the trick. I most love that it is getting her interested in doing good things for her mind and body.
  • This book manages to both be gorgeous and lyrical and also to be a practical, user-friendly way to introduce your kids to yoga and a calming bedtime routine. I even tried doing it myself too and definitely slept better )
  • A fabulous book! My 5 and 3 year olds enjoyed following the poses on the pages and making up stories to go along with them. Then they began making up new names for similar poses. The only thing I would improve is the binding. Since the book needs to lay flat while an adult does poses together with the kids, ring binding would have been preferable. We had to keep the book open with something heavy.
  • I bought this when my twins were just over 2 years old--they loved it immediately (they loved the good morning yoga book too, but this one was a huge bedtime hit). We did the poses together (or I did them and the kids did their own wobbly versions that occasionally looked like the book) they couldn't balance well at all, so they would do the standing on one leg postures holding onto the rails of their cribs until they grew up enough to be able to actually do them. Over the years, they haven't ever tired of the book. Now they're 4 and can actually do the poses including the ones on one leg (and are very proud of themselves that they can now do it). We've added sound effects (meows for the cat, buzzing for the bee) and they know the entire yoga flow by heart but love to read it anyway. If you're at all interested in yoga or if you have rambunctious kids who have trouble slowing down for bedtime (mine have always been happiest jumping around or running around their room when story time begins) this is an excellent solution--it gives them an active, physical task while "reading" and it slows them down for either more books or for bed. It even got us talking about the sun setting and the moon when we could see them out the window while they were doing the poses (depending on the seasons). I rarely do the poses with them anymore, but they can do it themselves so well, my job is just to turn the book pages. Really a wonderful book and the fact that my kids still request it is really the best endorsement of all (and on the few occasions it has been in another room at bedtime when they've wanted it, there have been tears of protest when I said we could do it tomorrow). Wonderful book (and I should say activity). Highly recommend!
  • My two year old wants to read this book and do the poses all the time. So cute. She goofs off while doing them, but she gets some of them right and it's a lovely way to introduce the benefits of yoga. It's a little hard to read both the story and the instructions aloud at the same time- you don't really get the story, but she gets the idea that it's about going to sleep and she loves it so much. Two-year-olds can be trying, so it's really nice to have something positive to share as a daily routine.
