Would you help your sister bury a body?

Danae Ericson arrives at the family lake house to find her brother-in-law dead in the kitchen and her sister Athena hysterical. Athena insists it was an accident, that her husband fell. But when Danae gently suggests they call the police, Athena refuses.

Danae has to admit that the bloody scene doesn’t look like an accident. She wants to believe her sister, but she isn’t sure. Out of loyalty to Athena, Danae agrees to help her sister bury the body and cover up the death.

But now Danae’s paranoid. Because there’s an inquisitive police detective that won’t leave her alone, and she’s since done some research on trace DNA. They will get caught if anyone ever finds the body.

So, Danae goes back to dig it up and remove the evidence.

Except the body is gone.

  • This book caught my attention right from the very beginning and there was a new surprise every few pages. I just wanted to keep reading to the end. It was told in a way I could relate to, in that it followed a person's thought patterns. For example, sometimes there would be a series of very short, abrupt thoughts, just as if you were thinking and grasshoppering from one thought to another.....making it easy reading. It was not filled unnecessarily with bad language and gore, which is a big plus for me.
  • Good ending.
  • This book kept me reading, but it was a dark comedy that really wasn’t that funny. The storyline looked promising, it just missed the mark. This is written in the first person and Danae was that person. She is a stage manager for a theater company and if this book had ended up just being a play it probably would have been better.

For those who think it was gripping or thrilling have not read a truly good mystery/thriller/psychological suspense. It moved well enough, it was just a bit too nutty for me. The author needs to leave out all the “ums” and just state the characters hesitation. The ending had an Omen twist that just made the book all that more crazy.

I will give the author another try, but I truly hope she gets better than this.
  • The author is not a very good writer. She writes how people that have a limited vocabulary speak. The characters are flat and I’m honestly not sure if I’m reading YA fiction or if this is an adult novel. I haven’t even finished it. It’s difficult to get through due to poor writing and unimaginative writing style, but would like to know the ending. I might skip ahead to the end. I wouldn’t read anything from this author again.
  • Lots of twists and turns in this one... you'll stay up late reading.
  • This book was a waste of time. The first part of it was ok, but after that it felt like a child had written the rest. I skipped through quite a bit just trying to finish it. I shouldn’t have wasted my time. There were a number of grammatical errors as well. Poorly written, and a ridiculous plot.
