Essentials of Genetics 4th Edition William S Klug Michael R Cummings Books Reviews

  • This book was assigned to me for an introductory genetics class, with no prerequisite biology needed for the class. The way this book presents genetics is awful for an intro class. I have taken multiple other biology classes, and thus understand the information better than my classmates, but this book is organized in a very confusing way without a lot of explanation in many areas. If you are thinking of using this book for an intro genetics course, please don't. And this is coming from a student with a 4.0. It's terrible.
  • I mean, obviously I got this for a class. I found I rarely used it (got an A in the class) and when I did some of the information was a little contradictory to what is on scholarly articles on the internet. If you're buying this you are probably buying it for a class anyways, though. So buy away. It did come as the edition listed, so you will be getting the edition you are paying for.
  • Came w/mold on the cover-water damage?-other than that no writing in the book which is a bonus
  • DO NOT BUY if you are looking for the Mastering Genetics access code. I purchased a new text EXPLICITLY because it said it was part of an "access code package". I understand access codes are not guaranteed with used texts, but new ones should have them (especially if advertised IN THE TITLE). What a rip-off.
  • The textbook was basically informative and useful, however, it asked questions in which the answers were not accessible so that when you were done working them you wondered how close to right you were. There was also too little information given in the text to use to answer some of the more complicated problems without researching elsewhere to figure out how to work them. In summary, it would have been better if the problems at the end of each chapter were better supported by the text itself.
  • This was a well written and informative book, it went in a logical order so that the base material allowed for building of later material in an easy to understand way without jumping around. There were clear illustrations and review points.
  • textbook for college - cheap and easy option for renting
  • Good price for an older edition. The cover is very bent and some of the pages look like they may have gotten wet.
